How... Why... I Fenced In My Hot Tub (DIY Project)
Since the wind out here is crazy, and the tent is falling apart. (Tip: gazebo tents are not meant to be left outside 24/7)
I bought a large tarp and we covered the tents to prevent them from falling apart anymore, and then built a fence around the tent to stop the wind from beating on it anymore.

    Thx for making this vid Jason. I was wondering if the inside walls are just discolored from the outside sun or is that yellow algae? I remember mine used to white but now has this yellow stain on the inside walls after I emptied it and let it sit out back for a season. I am assuming now that it has just become discolored. I know this is an old video but I have the same problem, and I just took apart the entire unit to try and find the cause. It is the heating element. Great video and I am going to follow your steps here but had a question. Like you describe my water seems to be green in color but I would call it clear. So clear green instead of clear blue. And I’ve been working my butt off to get it to be clear blue. I’ve already gone and completely scrub down everything with bleach and did an absolute fresh start about two weeks ago. Tried to follow all the correct steps to get it to stay blue and it only stay blue for a couple uses and then went to this clear green again. My question is for you did you drain all your water and restart from scratch following the steps or did you follow the steps starting with your green water?

    • @SmittySahn
      @SmittySahn Год назад

      You should NOT need to drain it all out. It's just the mix of chemicals needs to be done in a certain order. I messed with it all day and it would not work until I did it in the right order and then everything was fine. You have to check it every few days with the test strips to make sure it stays balanced.

      Cleaning the filter every couple weeks to a month should be normal. Daily, something is wrong, and I'm not 100% sure but there is a senor inside that is either failing or faulty. I think there are videos on RUclips of how to replace that, if you want to try it on your own. If not the company should be able to send you a new pump if it isn't that old.

    Just got the Same tub, supposed to be plug and play 110v, took 2 plus days to get to 97, we got it in it and it dropped to 92. Something seems off to me as the outside temp is 12 degrees and it should be able to maintain at least 97.

    • @SmittySahn
      @SmittySahn 2 года назад

      The only thing I can think of is there is an Eco mode. Make sure it is not set to that. Other than that, it should keep the temp. BUT... if it is 12 degrees out and depending on how long you are in there the temp will drop. I have mine in an insulated tent and even during winter it still drops from 104 down to about 95~92 ish. after being in for about 3~4 hours or so. If you are outside in 12* and start at 104 I could see it dropping too low 90s* easily. I don't see how it can maintain at least 97. Also, if you have bubbles turned on the temp will drop even faster. the 110v ones cannot run heat and bubbles at the same time. If you are out there and do not run bubbles it will keep its temp longer.

    • @GHOST-kg7tg
      @GHOST-kg7tg Год назад

      @@bamabloodaboogaloo9929 Yes I did. At the standard plug and play 120v, the heater runs at around 1kw, which heats the water about 1 degree per hour or less depending on outside temperature, wind etc... What I had to do was wire it for 210v 220v whatever it is, which required a 60amp breaker in my panel and a 50 amp disconnect before the breaker panel. The heater now runs at 4kw and heats up 4 or 5 degrees per hour. When I first got the tub, it took about 3 days to go from 70 degree city water temp to the 104 degrees, once it maxed out at 104, we were able to get a good 2 hours of sitting time before it dropped to the mid 95 98 degree mark and by the next day, it was 104 again. The heater at 120v just can't keep up for long extended periods which is normal for a plug and play. If your wanting to enjoy it for long long periods of sitting or even winter use, you'll have to convert it to 220v. You can find the instructions for that in the online manual and it will show you what you need. Feel free to ask if I wasn't clear on something. Also make sure you're in st mode fir the best results and it was recommended to me that the 2 smaller jet valves are in the off position while you're not using it, as this can cool the water down by adding in cool air bubbles.

Just the wind and the little snow we do get have just wore the tent out. Putting the tarp over it now has really helped save it from just getting ripped apart.

      I got almost two years out of it. But outside of the mechanical issue it had, I'm sure it would have lasted much much longer.

    I just had black coming from the filter intake when I turned sideways to clean the tub. I have been doing this once a month for a year we live in Florida and it stays on 365 days a year this is the first time I’ve had that black charcoal water running in the reverse direction out of the filter intake.

    We’re trying to decide if this is big enough for four adults on a very casual basis, normally would be two people.

    • @SmittySahn
      @SmittySahn 2 года назад

      It says its a 6 person hottub, and there are 7 seats in total which with 6 or 7 adults it would be fairly cozy fit. So, it is perfectly ok to hold 4 adults with plenty of space.

    How long did it take to reach 104 degrees from the temp out of your hose?

    • @SmittySahn
      @SmittySahn 2 года назад

      I totally forgot to put the total time in the video. It heats up at about roughly 2 degrees per hour. Going from empty, filling with garden hose water which was probably around 60 degrees. To get from 60* to 104* is about 22 hours, going at 2 degrees per hour.

    I have the exact same problem. Small black flakes. After stripping dow the whole unit if found that it’s not an issue with the water pump or jet pump. It’s also not a build up of dirt or mould inside the pipes. The problem is inside the heat exchanger. It’s the paint flaking and deteriorating from inside it heat exchanger. Call intex and get it replaced

      They wanted $350 to 'fix it' (basically replace it for me).. The whole thing was $400 to buy a new one.

    Also... Sometimes the grill at the filter inlet (behind the filter) gets clogged with hair and stuff. When you replace the filter be sure to clear that opening too.

      @@SmittySahn Hi Jason Sorry, may I ask you a couple more questions. 1. What is the price for these tubs. Giver take? 2. Do you have to be careful and watch for rodents getting in to them? Are the Getaway tubs secure?.

    • @SmittySahn
      @SmittySahn 2 года назад

      @@dianereddick6569 No worries at all. The one that I have (Getaway Bar Harbor) was just about $6,000. Rodents... I'm not sure, we don't have much for rodents where I am located. The only thing running around our neighborhood is random cats and dogs. If you go to my other video on the 'Getaway Bar Harbor Hot Tub - New Hot Tub Setup' at about 4:24 you can see the bottom side of the hot tub. It is fairly well sealed up on the bottom, but there are some little gaps and spaces, so they could get in there and make a nest, but they can't get into the hot tub from the bottom. The top side on the other hand has a cover, and it is heavy enough to create a nice seal so nothing can get into it. The cover also has clips that the cover can snap into to keep it "locked" so to speak so kids can't get into the hot tub. We have had that one sitting out on the back patio now for a year with no issues. So as far as them being secure, I would say they stay fairly well closed and sealed up. Hope that helps.

    So for the record the brand is pronounced Inte(x) and not Intech. Its literally printed in bold print right on the side of the unit. While this seems like a small detail it shouldn’t be ignored that many people make this same mistake by pronouncing it this way. That being said it’s also not a pool it’s a hot tub. That being said I too have experienced changing to a new filter works for a bit. I have yet to pull anything apart but that may have to be the next step considering it has happened more than once and after a short period of time. It seems like a fairly expensive habit to just continually change out filters at this pace.

    • @SmittySahn
      @SmittySahn 2 года назад

      So for the record... You should really start making some of your own videos so others can ridicule you before you start trying to correct other people on their videos. First off, I know what the brand is called I just wanted to see if anyone else got the Office Space reference, and someone did get the reference, so you're a little late to that party. And second, since you want to get really nitpicky, it's not even called a hot tub by the company (Intex). They call it a Spa, or Massage Spa, or Bubble Massage Set. check out their website and you'll see "hot tub" is not really even used anywhere. I called it a spa at the very beginning of the video, and since I didn't edit this particular video at all, I did misspeak and say pool. So I called it a pool instead of a spa (or hot tub as you call it)... Ya got me there. "Changing the filters every month" If you think it is an expensive habit, then maybe you shouldn't own one, or contact the company to get them to re-engineer their product. I did call them a couple times already and they do recommend changing out the filter every month anyway (of course depending on usage). Now on the new hot tub I have I only need to change the filter once a year. I knew that going into purchasing it because that is how it was designed.
